We mention My First Hymnal quite a bit on this blog. It is a great resource for you and your children to use as they are growing up and learning. The combination of artwork and music makes it a rich tool for teaching the faith to your children.

Here are three hymns from My First Hymnal that you might consider this month as we celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation:

Cling Tightly to the Word of God p. 113

This is a wonderful hymn by Rev. Stephen Starke that points us to what the Reformation points us to—God’s Holy Word!

Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word p. 97

This is a hymn that I am sure you will hear all throughout the month of October. It is a favorite Luther hymn for many people.

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God pp. 98-99

You didn’t think you were going to get a Reformation song list without “A Mighty Fortress”, did you?

God’s blessings as you teach the faith once for all, delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).

Our LWML recently gave each child in our congregation a copy of My First Catechism and My First Hymnal. We are using the Catechism in Sunday school with ages 2-8, but we are disappointed that the hymnal does not contain parts of the liturgy. We encourage the ones who can read to follow along in the hymnal with their parents, but we would still like to teach them the liturgy in Sunday school.
