True God and True Man—Unit 6

Grade 8—Unit 6

Tools:
Word cloud generator, such as Wordle

Reference Material:
Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation, The Lutheran Study Bible, Faith Alive Bible

Objectives:

  • Explain who Jesus is and the purpose for which He came into the world.
  • Recognize that those without faith in Jesus will die in their sins.
  • Express faith in Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world, and express a desire to remain in God’s Word.

Duration of Project:
This project should take one to two days.

Activity:
In Lesson 64, students learn about Jesus being both true God and true man. Using the text from the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed and all of the verses listed on page 134 in the Student Book, have students create a word cloud showing Christ as true God and true man. Let students share their creations on social media. Students could even print out a copy and keep it on their desk or in their locker to remember the saving work that Christ did for us!

Critical Teaching Moment:
Since this is an easier activity for your students to complete, use their creations as a springboard for other activities. For instance, you could have students pair up and discuss what they find when they bring all of the texts together into a word cloud. You could also have students write about the word cloud in a blog post. If you are in a school with tablets, consider using the app Explain Everything to have students narrate and animate the image they create.

Differentiation:
In this lesson, you will need to make sure that students have basic computer or tablet skills to copy and paste text. If you choose to extend this activity (see Critical Teaching Moment above), refer to a previous lesson to get tips on differentiation while using the various tools.
